Mental load : the part of learning French no one talks about

Learning French comes with a mental load.

Learning a language requires a lot of resources : time, attention, concentration, energy, organisation. And all of that can create stress and emotional side effects : doubt, lack of confidence, frustration, lower self-esteem.

Learning a language (especially when it’s the language of the country you live in) is hard.

It’s not trivial.
It’s not just a formality.
And no, it doesn’t happen naturally or effortlessly.

I’m not saying this to scare you.
I’m saying this to reassure you🫶.

If you feel overwhelmed, lost, or frustrated in your learning journey, there is nothing wrong with you.

We often hear success stories : someone who learned in two months just by watching Netflix, and who doesn’t understand why your journey looks so different… What we don’t hear is everything else behind the scenes.

What I want you to know is : what you feel around French is normal and valid.

Especially when you’re learning as an adult, while managing work, relationships, family, and life in general : it’s a lot!

So…how to reduce the mental load?

1. Choose clear objectives

I know I say this in almost every email, but that’s because it really is essential!!

👉Define what you’re focusing on for the next few weeks.
And just as importantly : decide what you are intentionally leaving aside for now because it’s not your priority at the moment.

And that alone frees up a huge amount of mental space.

That’s the magic of clear goals : they create clarity and they calm the mind✨.

2. Plan in advance

Another way to reduce mental load is to plan in advance what you gonna do around your French.

✔️Make list of content you should watch, read, listen.

✔️Make a list of exercices, speaking practices, or writing practices you want to do.

That way, when the moment comes :  you just start! No decision fatigue, no confusion.

3. Get support

And yes, I’ll allow myself a little self-promotion here, because it’s true :one of the best ways to reduce mental load is to work with a professional who helps you move toward your goals.

When someone starts coaching with me, they come to the session and unload everything around French : challenges, fears, doubts, questions, anxieties, hope, needs…

One of the first things my clients feel is relief, they no longer carry the pressure of constantly asking themselves :

🥵“Am I going in the right direction”?
🥵“What should I do next” ?
🥵“What content should I use”?

Because I am here to guide them and design the best learning path.

If this resonates, and you feel you need more clarity and less mental load, you can book a free 30-minute discovery call with me. Just a space to see if it feels right, no commitment.
